What should I expect at my first CrossFit workout?
Your first class at CrossFit RNA will be a fun challenging experience. Each class starts with a warm-up, then its skill training, instruction and movement standards for the WOD (workout of the day). When your coach says 3-2-1 GO!” the challenge begins and our community of athletes push themselves and encourage others to achieve higher levels of strength, fitness and ultimately health. For your first class, please arrive a few minutes early to meet our members, coaches and get to know our Gym. What’s the different between CrossFit and a regular gym? We provide personalised coaching during every class, for every exercise… |
We not only teach you proper movement, form and technique, we also help you to find a level of intensity within yourself that you may not even realise existed. The sense of camaraderie and community that we develop in our group classes is something you won’t find at a Globo-Gym, or through training alone.
I’m out of shape and/or have never worked out before. Is this right for me?
Absolutely. We see all clients with varying needs and abilities. Whether you’re just beginning your journey toward health and fitness, training for a specific sport and/or goal, or just wanting to stay healthy, we can help.
I’m really fit. Can I just join the classes straight away?
Yes! Book a class :)
What does “Open Gym” mean?
Our “open gym” times are not necessarily as they read. A coach is always on the floor, to supervise and to ensure safety for the members as needed. They make their own way through either that day’s workout, or any skills that they may be working on. These sessions are however, not coached in the same way that classes are. They are aimed at our members that who have a little more experience and are training the skills gained in the classes.
Do I need prior experience to join the classes?
No. But new members encouraged to try a class first. We have experienced coaches who can manage new members to CrossFit within a regular class. If you feel you would benefit from some onto one session to go over CrossFit specific movements before jumping into classes you can book in our 'Foundation Sessions'. This option is completely up to you as a member. The beauty of CrossFit is that all exercises are based on movements that you already do–like squatting, pushing and pulling. Exercises are scaled to inspire the beginner and challenge the most developed athletes.
I train at a CrossFit facility in another city. Do you allow drop-ins?
Absolutely. Booking is done through the classes page.
What makes CrossFit RNA Cambridge different from other gyms?
CrossFit is about variance and adaptation. We “program” our workouts for General Physical Preparedness, or GPP. We believe the body is a whole system and aim to train it in a way that reflects this. Our coaches also give you a basic education in diet and nutrition. We believe that nutrition is the foundation of health and fitness and know that how we feed our bodies determines how quickly we can achieve the results we want.
So for you, this means you will hopefully be a better runner than the best weightlifter, a better lifter than the best marathon runner, and generally physically prepared for anything in your everyday life. Plus you will live in a healthy body with a stronger, learner physique. All of that being said, the best part of the workout is that you are with a community of like minded people who will support you with your efforts.
You have no gym machines, are you waiting for a delivery?
Sorry to have to break this to you, but the only machines we use are the rowers, ski ergs and air bikes. You’ll also notice we don’t have mirrors either.
CrossFit is about functional movements natural to your body. Machines force your body into an unnatural movement patterns and artificially isolate muscles, which applies unacceptable levels of force to the joints. Think about it, if you have to carry a couch up three flights of stairs that machine in the gym isn’t going to help you!
