Equipment needed!?
So your new to CrossFit and excited to join your first class, maybe your unsure of what you need?
Firstly you will just need some comfy gym kit and trainers.
Once you have been doing CrossFit for a while you may see other using different bits of kit.
Below we have compiled a list of optional equipment to help add extra safety while enjoying CrossFit. These items will help progressively aid you through your CrossFit journey. You can choose to buy all of the equipment below or only a couple (I can say here and now it will only be a matter of time before you have them all!). None of this equipment is listed to supersede good movement, mobility & stretching but to help you enjoy your CrossFit life.
Velcro Lifting Belt: The belt is designed to help support the midline (Abs & lower back) during exercise. This is helpful for all athletes looking to try new weights in lifts.
Where to order from: www.strengthshop.co.uk OR http://www.rogueeurope.eu
Wrist Wraps: Wraps are designed to support the writs under load. When using a barbell and doing gymnastic movements the wrist is loaded. If you are not used to this they can be a life saver, and also when attempting new weights.
Where to order from: www.strengthshop.co.uk OR http://www.rogueeurope.eu
Pull-Up Grips (hand protection): These handy cloth grips are soft and will not interfere with performance. When performing moves like pull-ups and barbell work you get some friction on the hands, if you are not used to this you can sometimes form blisters which are no fun!
Where to order from: http://kitbox.co
Tape: When performing movement with the barbell we use something called a hook grip. This is where we tuck the thumb under the fingers around the bar. This can cause some discomfort for the thumb. If you wrap some tape around the thumb you won’t feel so much discomfort and it definitely will not blister. This can differ in price massively, remember it’s just for taping you thumbs so don’t go mad!
